On a recent trip to Toronto, our Executive Director found the portrait ‘House of Bâby’ while walking around Union Station.

The plaque reads ‘The House of Bâby is a portrait of eighteen Black and Indigenous people who were enslaved by the Bâby family of Toronto, Windsor and Detroit. Although their unpaid labour produced great wealth for the family, they were recognized only as property and were unacknowledged in official historical narratives.’

Lors d’un récent voyage à Toronto, notre directeur général a admiré le portrait « House of Bâby » (Chez les Bâby) en se promenant dans la gare Union.

L’on peut lire sur la plaque que « The House of Bâby représente des gens noirs et autochtones asservis par la famille Bâby de Toronto, Windsor et Detroit. Bien que leur travail non rémunéré ait produit toute la richesse de la famille, ils n’étaient reconnus que comme des biens et sont ignorés des récits historiques officiels. »
