Aawiwid KC Adams
KC Adams is a Cree, Ojibway, and British artist based in Winnipeg. Her nêhiyaw name is Flying Overhead in Circles Eagle Woman. Holding a BFA in studio arts from Concordia University, she practices as a multimedia artist, who is well known for creating work that tackles social issues. She was the scenic designer for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s Going Home Star: Truth and Reconciliation and recently opened a major public art sculpture, “Tanisi keke totamak … Ka cis teneme toyak” at the Forks in Winnipeg. Her exhibition Perception, a pointed political statement aimed at challenging deeply ingrained prejudices against the First Nations peoples, also resulted in an award-winning book of the same name. She is represented in many permanent collections, including that of the National Gallery of Canada.
